MAPPING FASHION PROMOTION: EMERGING MARKETS

BRICs, TIMPs and MINTs categorise the emerging markets within the fashion industry. Within the categories are one countries which are rising in the fashion industry.  Below I am going to discuss a few example of emerging markets within the industry.

DASLU SÃO PAULO BRAZIL
Sao Paulo is a city on the rise. Said to have an indigenous retail scene to complement the recent arrival of international luxury brands. Daslu is an upmarket multi-brand boutique-department store in São Paulo, Brazil. Daslu, is a multi-brand emporium showcases everything from Chanel and Vuitton to Gap and Banana Republic. Daslu sells (on an exclusive basis) over 300 imported labels. Worldwide, more than 70 stores sell to the Daslu brand from all over the globe including America, Africa, Europe, Middle East and Asia. In addition to 65 boutiques in Brazil. One of the elements said to make Daslu so special is the impeccable services.

As we toured Daslu, we saw an army of valets at the entrance speeding off to park the vehicles of arriving customers. Assistants dressed in black-and-white maid outfits were feverishly folding clothes to keep the store looking its best. Best of all, personal shoppers were selecting product from throughout the store to cater to customer requests on for an evening gown or a suit for an unexpected important business meeting.”  (source BOF http://www.businessoffashion.com/2007/12/sao-paulo-daslu’s-carnival-of-luxury.html)

However, Daslu’s stranglehold on the market may be in jeopardy. Daslu is known as a spot to go for lucury therapy however international brands have been setting up shop around the area which may drive some customers to those stores rather than the prestigious Daslu.
